Cucumber picking

The other week Champa shouted on Colin to come and help her pick her kheera (cucumbers) as she is about 4 foot nothing and couldn't reach them. The thought of Colin standing on a wobbly Indian made plastic chair sounded like a recipe for disaster but good old Aussie Jenny jumped to the rescue and said she would do it. After much hilarity because we were calling it a cucumber and Laxmi, Champa and Mani were all trying to say the English word, the picking got under-way.

Even Jenny, who is really quite tall, couldn't reach them when standing on the wobbly chair so I was sent to get something to assist her. Meanwhile Champa waslooking at me telling me to stop taking photos as she is working at the moment with other women in the village gathering rocks to reinforce the river banks before winter and didn't want me taking photos of her in her working clothes! Normally she loves having her photo taken but only when she is looking nice. That's her 'telling me off face' in the photo.

With my walking stick in hand Jenny was able to reach. Mani came to assist but he's about the same height as Champa. Laxmi was a bit more sensible, looking on from a distance in case the chair collapsed and they all ended up in a heap.

Success and Champa is still telling me off for taking photos.

The spoils of the day and then a nice salad for dinner.
